AZ at Bloomberg event, Malaysia February 5
On February 4, the Trans-Pacific Partnership Agreement (TPP) was signed between 12 Pacific rim countries for free trade. Global President & Managing Partner Aroop Zutshi was in Malaysia on February 5 to discuss the impact of this on the country, which is one of the participants of this agreement. Many Malaysians feel that they do not need to join the trade deal that promises to remove tariffs on imports and open the country up to more foreign direct investments,
Aroop feels otherwise. According to him, trade will have a positive impact on certain sectors like oil and gas, pharma, and retail. “Malaysia shouldn’t see this as a threat but as an opportunity for local companies to access the largest market in the world. Malaysia will stand to benefit from the TPP, as there would be fewer barriers for the export of Malaysian-made goods. Sectors that will find traction are electrical and electronics, automotive. The good thing about the TPP is that it is not in conflict with the other free trade agreements.”
Future of the US is going to be exciting, feels Aroop. With sub urbanization taking centerstage, 75% of US GDP is centered around cities. With their plan of 100 Smart cities, Malaysian companies have a great opportunity to get involved. “Take the automotive components industry, for instance. Proton, Perodua, Modenas have an eco system that is well established. This gives them an opportunity to tackle new markets with ease. A great opportunity on the whole,” retorts Aroop.

'Make in India' puts F&S in top spot
Aroop Zutshi received a special invite from Amitabh Kant, Secretary of the Department of Industrial Policy & Promotion to attend the ‘Make in India’ week in Mumbai. Corporate heads were invited for the opening day and Aroop was one of the elite few. Frost & Sullivan had earlier recognized the efforts of DIPP with an award at GIL India 2015 based on India ranking among the top countries according to Frost & Sullivan's Growth, Innovation, Leadership (GIL)-100 Index. This sure did make an impact as ‘Make in India’ posters across Mumbai carried Frost & Sullivan’s logo and acknowledgement. As a positive from this meeting, a project was commissioned by CII on core sector industries. FDI is especially crucial for the ‘Make in India’ initiative to succeed and the CII study will target sectors of high growth which will help spurt FDI into the country.
Aroop says the entire experience was unbelievable. This event turned out to be positive publicity for Frost & Sullivan and marks our foray into the economic development space in India.
